Mr Daniel Swallow
Known to patients as Danny
Consultant Urological Surgeon since 2015, with a particular expertise in complex kidney stone surgery and a teaching role in laser prostate surgery — known for unhurried, clear, personal care.
Background & training
Danny graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2005 (MA MB BChir) and went on to complete specialist higher surgical training in urology across the Eastern region, gaining his FRCS (Urol) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2013. He has been a Consultant Urological Surgeon since 2015, based at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, and holds private practising rights at The Princess Grace Hospital in London and Springfield Hospital in Essex.
Areas of expertise
Danny's main surgical interest is complex kidney stone surgery and keyhole stone treatment (endourology), a specialism he refined during additional training in Paris with Professor Olivier Traxer, a leading international authority in the field. Alongside this, he has particular expertise in laser treatment of the enlarged prostate (HoLEP), and provides general and paediatric urology care — reflecting the breadth of his listed clinical interests: endourology (keyhole stone surgery), general paediatric surgery, and general urology.
Teaching & training role
Danny is faculty on the Cambridge HoLEP course, the training programme led by Mr Tev Aho for surgeons learning holmium laser enucleation of the prostate. Teaching the next generation of urologists in this technique keeps his own practice closely aligned with current best evidence and technique.
How Mr Swallow works with patients
Many of the concerns Danny sees — waterworks symptoms, sudden stone pain, a worrying blood test — arrive with some anxiety attached. His approach is to slow things down: an unhurried consultation, a clear explanation of what's going on and why, and a plan you understand and feel part of. You will see him personally at each stage of your care, from first consultation through to treatment and follow-up.
Consultations are available in English and French, which — alongside remote video consultations for reviewing scans beforehand — makes it straightforward to coordinate care from overseas.
